Hutchison +53% ++, HK's Hutchison Whampoa 2007 net surges 53 pct on revaluation, asset sale gains Hutchison Whampoa Ltd said its net profit for 2007 rose 53 pct to 30.6 bln hkd from 20.03 bln a year earlier, supported by revaluation gains on investment properties and sales of telecom assets. The ports-to-telecom conglomerate's earnings were at the upper end of market forecasts in the 29.32 bln to 31.29 bln hkd range. Total revenue rose 15 pct to 308.78 bln hkd from 267.66 bln a year earlier, while earnings per share surged 53 pct to 7.18 hkd, up from 4.7. Revenue of its third generation (3G) mobile phone business rose 18 pct to 59.91 bln hkd. Its 3G global customer base currently totals more than 17.6 mln. Hutchison said that thanks to progress in the second half, the 3G business achieved positive earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for the first time.
