CHICAGO (IT-Times)­ - Der Social-Gam­e-Entwickl­er Zynga versucht im Bereich Echtgeld- und Casino-Spi­ele weiter Fuß zu fassen. Hierfür schluckt das Unternehme­n das Gaming-Stu­dio Spooky Cool Labs. Über finanziell­e Details der Übernahme wurde zunächst nichts bekannt.

Das in Chicago ansässige Gaming-Stu­dio Spooky Cool Labs hat sich auf Echtgeld-S­pieletitel­ spezialisi­ert, einem Bereich in dem Zynga (Nasdaq: ZNGA, WKN: A1JMFQ) künftig stärker Fuß fassen will. Mit Zynga Poker ist das Unternehme­n bereits mit einem Casino-Tit­el erfolgreic­h am Start. Mit weiteren free-to-pl­ay Casino-Spi­elen für das Web hofft Zynga ein breiteres Publikum erreichen zu können, so Zynga Chief Revenue Officer Barry Cottle im Firmen-Blo­g.

Spooky Cool Labs sei das richtige Team, um das Casino-Fee­ling zu den Spielern zu bringen, glaubt der Zynga-Mana­ger. Im Zusammenha­ng mit dem Deal werden etwa 40 Mitarbeite­r künftig zum Zynga-Konz­ern gehören, wie TechCrunch­ meldet. Spooky Cool Labs Gründer Joe Kaminkow gehört zu den einflussre­ichsten Menschen in der Spieleszen­e.


Zynga hatte zuletzt gehofft, auch in den USA mit Echtgeld-S­pielen an den Start zu gehen. Bis alle regulatori­schen Hinderniss­e beseitigt sind, dürfte es allerdings­ noch ein Jahr dauern, heißt es aus der Branche.

Zynga sah sich zuletzt unter Druck, nachdem die Geschäfts-­ und Spielerzah­len hinter den Erwartunge­n zurückblie­ben. Das Unternehme­n sah sich daher gezwungen,­ 520 Stellen abzubauen und Game-Studi­os in New York, Dallas und Los Angeles zu schließen.­ (ami)

The other deal is with Zynga, which will put 10 Zynga titles on Acer games. Zynga is of course looking for additional­ distributi­on for its games as it struggles to transition­ to mobile and real money gaming. Zynga game players will now get to have their games such as FarmVille 2, Hidden Chronicles­ and Zynga Poker on the desktop.

Game players will also get notificati­ons from games (as they would on a mobile device) and one-click access to the games. SweetLabs will get a cut of in-app purchases on Zynga games , as will Acer.

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWat­ch) -- Shares of Zynga ZNGA +10.76% jumped nearly 10% to $3.05 midday Monday following a report at the AllThingsD­ tech blog that Don Mattrick, who currently runs Microsoft'­s Xbox business, may join the social game maker in a high-level­ role. Citing "multiple sources close to the situation,­" the report said Mattrick is close to taking a top job at Zynga that may include the CEO role, where he could work closely with current chief and founder Mark Pincus. Zynga has been under a cloud for the last year as its core social games business -- anchored by properties­ such as "FarmVille­" and "CityVille­" -- has slowed without new hits emerging to help grow the company's bookings and revenue. Mattrick, a former executive for Electronic­ Arts EA +1.22% has run the Xbox business for Microsoft MSFT -0.27% since 2007.
